LEADERSHIP
CHANGES AT BASIC
6
April 2008
Statement of Dr. Trevor McCrisken, Chair,
BASIC's Board of Trustees
I am pleased to announce that Paul Ingram is
now serving as BASIC's Executive Director, overseeing both
the London and Washington offices.
Paul has worked with BASIC since 2002, first
as Senior Analyst and most recently as the London-based Co-Executive
Director. Paul will be dividing his time between London and
Washington, returning BASIC to an operating mode that in the
past has proved an effective way for BASIC to bring a valuable
transatlantic perspective to key arms control and international
security issues. We believe that this move will put us in
a position to be an even more effective member of the communities,
networks and coalitions in which we participate.
Since taking over the London office in November,
Paul has been doing an excellent job of strategically and
effectively engaging with policymakers and partners in London
and elsewhere to promote BASIC's agenda while increasing our
programmatic activities. We are convinced that it is the right
time for Paul to take BASIC forward and make it a stronger
transatlantic organization.
Paul will be in the United States the week of
April 6 to talk with our partners and funders about some of
the developments and plans for BASIC in London and Washington,
as well as offering an opportunity to hear about his recent
visit to Tehran and his weekly talk show about regional security
matters on domestic Iranian TV (you can read about some of
this on our Getting
to Zero blog or in the most recent BASIC
Iran and GTZ
updates).
BASIC is most grateful to Steven Monblatt for
his contributions to BASIC during his tenure as the Washington-based
Co-Executive Director. I am sure that you join with BASIC's
Board and staff to wish Steve every success in his future
endeavours.
Please feel free to contact BASIC if you have
any questions or comments. We look forward to working closely
with all our partners and supporters as BASIC grows and develops
on both sides of the Atlantic as we work towards a world without
nuclear weapons.
