Budget Battles

Congress is in recess this week, in fact through May 1. But the battle lines have now been drawn over the fiscal 2012 budget as House Representatives prepare to resume the debate, with both sides of the aisle vowing to restore fiscal sanity to the nation while presenting widely divergent solutions.

Getting to Zero Update

The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review conference concluded at the end of May on a positive note. However, the months ahead look uncertain. Diplomatic relations over the North Korean and Iranian programs continue to deteriorate, and there still lacks a firm indication on whether the New Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START) will be ratified by the end of the year.

Russia hails agreement on nuclear arms treaty
