Dr. Ian Kearns, Trident Commission Consultant


Ian Kearns is BASIC's Trident Commission Consultant. He is also Chief Executive for the European Leadership Network (ELN). Previously he  was BASIC's research director. Prior to this he was acting director and deputy director of the Institute for Public Policy Research, and deputy chair of its independent All-Party Commission on National Security in the 21st Century, serving under co-chairs Lord George Robertson and Lord Paddy Ashdown. Ian has over 20 years' experience of working on foreign and security policy issues and has published on a wide range of issues including Britain's 'special relationship' with the United States, nuclear non-proliferation, the enlargement of the European Union, conflict in the former Yugoslavia, and the security situation in Northern Ireland. He was former director of the graduate program in International Studies at the University of Sheffield, a former director in the Global Government Industry Practice at Electronic Data Systems (EDS), and is a regular media commentator on domestic and international security.
