Ambassador Robert Barry


Robert Barry is a consultant on election and governance issues. During a 35-year career in the U.S. Foreign Service, he specialized in Soviet and Eastern European affairs, arms control and public diplomacy. He was ambassador to Bulgaria and Indonesia, and head of the US delegation to the Stockholm Conference on disarmament in Europe. Following his retirement, he served as the Head of Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina for the OSCE, 1998–2001. Subsequently he headed or served on election observation missions for the OSCE and other organizations. Ambassador Barry is a 1956 graduate of Dartmouth College, which awarded him the honorary degree of Doctor of Laws in 2006.
