The 1997 NPT PrepCom
7 - 18 April, New York
From April 7-18, the first Preparatory
Committee (PrepCom) meeting for the 2000 NPT Review Conference took place
at the United Nations in New York. As the first PrepCom under the new
review process agreed at the 1995 NPT Review and Extension Conference,
this meeting set important precendents for the rest of the run up to the
2000 Review Conference.
BASIC and our NETS colleagues attended the
entire PrepCom, tracking developments and inserting ideas into the debate.
The following publications were prepared for or during the PrepCom; a
large number of official and unofficial PrepCom documents are also
available.

Disarmament Intelligence Review
Disarmament Intelligence Review (now known
as the Acronym Institute), produced a series of reports during the PrepCom,
most of which are available here. The Acronym Institute was established to
monitor arms control, disarmament and environmental issues, including
multilateral negotiations and related agreements. For more information,
