The
Acronym Institute
The Acronym Institute works to promote nuclear disarmament by spreading
information and maximizing negotiating opportunities. Their site has
background information on NMD, the ABM-Treaty and the START process.
Arms
Control Association (ACA)
ACA is a US nonpartisan membership organization dedicated to
promoting public understanding of and support for effective arms control
policies. They have produced a number of reports on NMD and ABM issues.
Berlin
Information-Center for Transatlantic Security (BITS)
BITS is Berlin-based research organization working on nuclear
disarmament, arms control and non-proliferation. They have produced a
number of reports on NMD, especially on its possible impact on European
security.
Brookings
Institution
An influential Washington think-tank, Brookings offers commentary and
analysis, as well as documentation.
Carnegie
Endowment for International Peace
The Carnegie Endowment works to advance cooperation between
nations and promote active international engagement by the US. Their site
has many news items, government resources, briefings and reports on NMD.
Center
for Defense Information (CDI)
CDI is an independent monitor of the military which seeks to evaluate US
defense needs. Their website has an archive of reports, briefings and
articles on NMD and other related issues.

CNS is devoted to combating the spread of weapons of mass
destruction. Along with information on a range of WMD related issues,

CSP aims to stimulate and inform the national and international debate
about all aspects of US security policy. They have produced a large number
of reports and briefings on issues relating to NMD.

(CSIS)
Arguably the most widely referenced strategic think-tank. CSIS's
"Homeland Defense" project includes reports on NMD.
Civil
Network for a Peaceful Korea (CNPK)
By encouraging the active exchange of opinions, CNPK seeks to
promote peace and understanding on the Korean peninsula. They have
produced reports on the impact of NMD and TMD on North East Asian
security.
Coalition
to Reduce Nuclear Dangers
The Coalition works to reduce the dangers of weapons of mass destruction.
They have produced a number of in-depth reports and briefings on NMD, all
of which are available on their website.
Council
for a Livable World
The Council for a Livable World works to rid the world of
weapons of mass destruction and eliminate wasteful military spending.
Their site contains reports, briefings and extensive background
information on NMD.
Federation
of American Scientists (FAS)
Founded in 1945 by members of the Manhattan Project, FAS works
to end the arms race and achieve nuclear disarmament. Their site has an
extensive archive of factsheets, articles and papers on all aspects of
missile defense.
Group
for Research and Information on Peace and Security (GRIP)
GRIP is a French organization that tackles issues of international
security from a European point of view. They have produced a number of
reports on issues relating to the proposed NMD system.
Henry
L. Stimson Center
The Center forms a community of analysts devoted to offering practical
solutions to problems of national and international security. One of their
program areas is Weapons of Mass Destruction and this site carries pieces
on ballistic missile defense as well as more general WMD work.
Heritage
Foundation
A research and lobbying group based in Washington. Their website is home
to a wide range of NMD resources, including briefings and articles on the
proposed system, along with intelligence reports on 'states of concern'.
International
Security Information Service (ISIS)
ISIS provides independent information, analysis and research reports on
issues related to international security. They have produced a series of
papers examining some of the important issues related to NMD.
Nautilus
Institute
Nautilus focuses its coverage of NMD on the system's implications for East
Asian security. Includes reports and commentary.
Oxford
Research Group (ORG)
ORG works towards achieving specific nuclear disarmament
objectives. They have organized seminars and produced reports on NMD,
focusing particularly on the reactions of China, Russia and Europe.

for International Policy in Russia (PIR Center)
The PIR Center is a Moscow-based research organization which
works on international security, arms control, and nonproliferation
issues. It has a number of reports and studies on NMD and other related
issues.
Union
of Concerned Scientists (UCS)
UCS works for a cleaner environment and a safer world. They
have produced a large number of briefings, reports and factsheets on NMD,
particularly on the alleged technical limitations of the proposed system.
World
Policy Institute
The Institute focuses on policy research and advocacy on critical world
problems. Its Arms Trade Resource Center contains several important
reports on NMD.

GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATIONS
Abolition
2000
Abolition 2000 is an international movement that calls for the
conclusion of a treaty to eliminate nuclear weapons. Their work includes
highlighting the dangers to the disarmament process posed by NMD.
Campaign
for the Accountability of American Bases (CAAB)
CAAB campaigns to raise the level of public awareness, scrutiny
and accountability surrounding US bases in the UK. Their work was
instrumental in revealing the involvement of Menwith Hill and Fylingdales
in NMD.
Global
Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space
The Global Network is an international grassroots
movement which has campaigned against NMD, TMD and the use of nuclear
power in space exploration. Their site has detailed information on these
and other issues.
Peace
Action
Peace Action is a the
largest grassroots peace and disarmament organization in the US. Committed
to the abolition of nuclear weapons, they have a large amount of
information on anti-NMD campaigning.
Stop
Star Wars
Stop Star Wars is a campaign against NMD coordinated by Greenpeace.
The site has information on non-violent direct actions, diplomatic efforts
and letter writing campaigns. It also has background information on NMD.
Yorkshire
CND
Yorkshire CND is a branch of the Campaign
for Nuclear Disarmament. Their site has an extensive archive of
news items and articles on NMD, TMD, Fylingdales and Menwith Hill, along
with information on campaigns.

This news service is part of a wider site devoted to different aspects of

Within the Department of Defense, the BMDO is responsible for
managing, directing, and executing the Ballistic Missile Defense Program.
The site has background information and updates on both NMD and all TMD

State Department resource on NMD and arms control issues with frequent

DefenseLINK
This is the official site of the U.S. Department of Defense. Provides a
wider context for the NMD debate by outlining new military doctrine and

States Department of State - Washington File
This site features press releases, transcripts and articles on diplomatic
and political developments surrounding U.S. interests. NMD features
regularly, with arguments both pro and contra being represented.

States Space Command (USSPACECOM)
U.S. Space Command is responsible for coordinating the use of
Army, Naval and Air Force space forces. The site has links to all branches
