International relations are undergoing their most profound
change in over forty years. Yesterday's impossibilities have
become today's headlines. Now more than ever we need the kind
of analyses and policies that can help scale down military
confrontation and redefine the meaning of security in a post-Cold
War world.
British American Security Information Council
(BASIC) is dedicated to bringing these new ideas into
the public debate. With offices in London and Washington and
solid contacts in most NATO nations, BASIC's role is to be
ahead of the news on emerging arms control and disarmament
issues.
Founded in 1987 as an independent research organization,
BASIC utilizes expert briefings, speaking tours, press conferences,
and our growing list of publications to bring our message
home to legislators, experts, media and the general public.
The Herbert
Scoville Jr. Peace Fellowship pays a stipend for college
graduates to work with NGOs in Washington, DC, including BASIC,
on arms control, peace and security issues for six to nine
months.
