"Missing Document" 2:
A Comprehensive Concept for
Arms Control and Disarmament
NATO has, at least in public, chosen to ignore the wide debate
over its nuclear policies begun by the German government late
last year. To remedy this deficiency, BASIC, in its Risk
Reduction Strategy for NATO report, recommended that
the Alliance produce a comprehensive examination of NATO's
nuclear doctrine and its impact on proliferation. An Alliance
proposal for the CFE Treaty, as well as efforts to control
the spread of conventional weapons, including small arms,
should also be included.
This page will provide news and analysis on the debates over
the Alliance's nuclear and conventional arms control and disarmament
policies, as well as a link to the chapter on this in BASIC's
Risk Reduction Strategy for NATO.
